Microstructural control of CaO–Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>–SiO<sub>2</sub> glass-ceramics by the amounts of tungsten oxide and carbon added as nucleation agent sources

Microstructural control of CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 (CAS) glass-ceramics (GCs) bearing metastable CaAl2Si2O8, a layered crystal, from parent glass having single composition was achieved by increasing the amounts WO3 and carbon used as sources metallic W particle nucleation agents. The average crystal size increased 9.3 to 49 µm when amount were fivefold in preparation CAS GCs. To investigate effect separately, cullet containing mixed with batches then melted form specimens different carbon. Upon crystallization these specimens, 9.0 43 or fivefold, respectively. results indicate that changing is necessary GC microstructure.
